Hello Again || Karek

adversuus:

            Well, if there had been any lingering doubt that she was Kate Argent it vanished as she spoke again. Ever the smartass, ever finding the exact words that despite the barriers Derek put up, could worm through his defences and make him absolutely seethe.

            There was something to be said about hate and love. How undeniably close the two emotions ran; how they wove together and tightened like a knot. —- it was confusing. Frustratingly so.

            The Alpha’s hand didn’t pull away, but his hold relaxed some, allowing her to fill her lungs and give him an explanation. One, of which, wasn’t satisfactory. There was a whole world where this woman could live and yet she managed to find herself a solid five paces from the wolf coincidentally?

            His eyes flared a deep red.

“Tell me why you’re here, Kate.” Her name hiccuped on his tongue and anger surged through his veins immediately. He hated that even a look from this woman was enough to get under his skin.

          Every tensing of Derek’s muscles, and every expression that crossed his face were priceless. There was nothing Kate loved more than getting him worked up, she couldn’t help it. She knew it didn’t take much for her to get to him, and she used that to her advantage.

          Even though she did still feel for him, those feelings were buried deep underneath her cold exterior. It’s how she kept herself from being vulnerable, because if there were no outward emotions then there was no way she could get hurt. The best defense she could have.

          And there went his eyes. He was an alpha, that was new. Must have happened after she had gotten her throat torn out by his uncle. “I like the new eye color, sweetheart. Suits you.” she cooed before rolling her eyes at his next demand.

          “Come on Derek, is this a game now? I’m being honest here. Take a listen to my heart and tell me I’m lying.” she spoke, a challenging eyebrow raising as her lips curled up in yet another one of her signature smirks. “Good thing I didn’t decide to move in before I ran into you, hm? I’m just as shocked as you are, sweetie. I didn’t know you had even moved.” she pointed out before her expression went thoughtful. “–Tell me, why did you move? Tired of being unable to get rid of the smell of ashes? Or were you just tired of everything being black? Maybe the holes in the roof when it rained?” she grinned devilishly. Okay so she shouldn’t have said that, but provoking him was like second nature to the huntress.
