Dust on the Ground || Kate & Laura

howlinglaurahale:

Laura sensed a shift in Kate’s heartbeat, a slight change in her heart rate, and it made her angry. She knew that the other woman claimed to get a kick out of screwing with her head, but an almost concrete example of that made her blood boil. Kate had imagined seeing her again, over the years, and it was nothing like the real thing. The woman had aged well - and Laura hated herself for having that thought, no matter how much she filed it away as a strategic observation. She harbored so many mixed feelings for the woman, had let them fester and grow into an infected knot of hatred, that she couldn’t see straight when she finally came face to face with her for the first time in years. It was painful in more ways than one, and she pushed that thought away as she focused on her goal.

The werewolf narrowed her eyes at the woman, a growl starting to bubble its way up her throat. She held onto it, not giving the woman the satisfaction even as she curled her lip. Kate’s laugh sounded the same and completely different all at once, the familiar sound making her curl her hands into fists. “Only when it’s convenient for you, right?” She asked, rolling her shoulders and clenching her jaw , her eyes flashing to Kate’s finger. “If you so much as make a move to shoot me, I’ll make this worse.” Laura threatened, her chest rumbling with a growl as she slid out her claws. “You’re just as fucked up as ever, Kate. Do you get a kick out of it, knowing what you did, and continuing to twist the knife? It wasn’t enough to kill my family, do you have to rub salt in the wounds, too?” Laura’s anger wavered for only a moment, giving way to a hint of sadness, but she clenched her jaw and moved forward again, only a few feet from Kate. “You won’t be doing that anymore, Kate. I warned you. You practically begged me to kill you. Is that how you want to die?’

Every hint of anger that Laura gave only heightened Kate’s adrenaline level. No matter how bad she felt, putting herself in danger gave her a certain satisfaction, as fucking stupid as it was. She got off on the fear, damn she really was twisted. When the wolf approached her, the huntress didn’t so much as flinch. She just kept her gaze fixated on Laura’s, her tongue slowly dragging across her lips to wet them. The smirk never left her mouth, and she crossed her arms. “I don’t have to explain myself to you, Laura. I get a kick out of this right here.” she answered, leaving out the part about the fire on purpose. Right now everything was a game, and she wasn’t about to get serious. She wouldn’t stoop low enough to try and explain herself like this anyways, she was better than that. Her arms crossed over her chest and she let out a small chuckle. “So easy to work up, sweetheart. Down girl.” she mused with a grin.
