Dust on the Ground || Kate & Laura

howlinglaurahale:

Laura fought the urge to snap her in half then and there, the wolf that was howling with anger in her head and throughout her body was pushing her to do it. . But another part of the wolf wanted something else, and Laura shook her head to control herself. Her chest heaved and she let out huffs of breath, strong exhales through her nose. “Do you want to test me, Kate? It’s not so hot when you’re bleeding out and your heart beats for the last time.” She looked straight into the woman’s eyes, searching them for something she’d seen in them, years ago, whatever it was that had drawn her before. But that girl wasn’t there, or she couldn’t seem to find her in her fit of rage, in the haze of hatred and pain and everything else that was coursing through her body. “I could tear your throat out, snap you in half, do any number of things. Aren’t I an animal, Kate? Wouldn’t an animal have killed you by now? How does it feel to know that an animal has more restraint than you?” She badgered the woman with the words, all the while her hands were moving, down Kate’s arms until she reached her wrists, which she pinned to the rough bark of the tree, keeping her from moving. Laura curled her fingers, digging her blunt human nails into Kate’s wrists at that, a very human snarl falling from her mouth. “Shut up. I swear to God, Kate, I’ve been patient with you, I’m showing you mercy right now, not tearing you up and leaving you on your brother’s doorstep or scattering you across the forest floor. Don’t you fucking dare. We died too, Kate - a long time ago doesn’t exist anymore. Those girls don’t exist anymore.”

Kate chuckled softly at how worked up the woman in front of her was, watching her chest rise and fall rapidly with pants as she tried to keep control. Her breath was audible, and Kate only found that even more entertaining. “Calm down, I’m the one that got slammed into a tree and I’m not even breathing as hard as you.” she mused, smirking. “You honestly think that intimidates me, sweetheart? I’ve done it once before, and even if it wasn’t the most pleasant thing on earth, I can do it again. Dying doesn’t scare me.” she answered, her gaze locking with the wolf that had her against the tree. It was an intense stare, a stare that they had shared many times yet there was something off because of all the rage involved. The tension could be cut with a knife. Both the ‘I really want to fucking kill you’, and the 'fuck me against this tree right now’ kind. It really was true what was said about love and hate. They run together so closely that right now it had Kate’s head whirling. When the other woman finally spoke, the huntress smirked. A shiver ran down her spine just at the mere mention of what could happen right now, the danger making a rush of adrenaline spread through her body. Leaning her head forward, she closed some of the distance between their faces. “Such an animal, Laura. It fits you, makes you even more entertaining and appealing.” she cooed out, her smirk only growing. The hands trailing down her arms weren’t helping the underlying tension between them that had been there for years. They were both trying to push it back, although it was obvious they were both well aware it was there. When her wrists were pressed to the tree and the nails dug in she only slightly squirmed for a moment as her lip hooked in her teeth and her eyes fell shut, head falling back against the tree as listening to the wolf speak. Releasing the smallest, barely audible grunt, she opened her mouth to answer. “Are you really sure about that?” she questioned, head cocking to the side slightly as her eyes once again locked with the girl in front of her. “If that were true, then why haven’t you gone through with any of your threats then, hm? Come on now sweetie, think about all of your contradictions here. You say that you don’t care and that you can’t wait to rip me apart, yet instead you have me pinned against a tree without so much as a scratch. I think you need to do a little bit of self assessment here before you say something like that again.”
