Hello Again || Karek

adversuus:

            Despite her very precarious existence (he was serious, very serious) under his grasp, Kate still managed to exude an air of confidence that was setting Derek’s blood to boil. She wasn’t afraid of him; that, or, she wasn’t afraid of anything, and he couldn’t bring himself to believe the latter. And maybe he knew why, she seemed to.

            He wouldn’t kill her.

            Not out of hand and without provocation. Immediate provocation.

            He disregarded the comment about his eyes, pushing away a misplaced sense of pride — why should it matter of Kate Argent was aware of his status? It didn’t.

            The grip around her throat tightened briefly before he has fell away completely; tight and uncomfortable down at this sides. His claws had found their way out and he consciously put them away. That wasn’t to say he trusted her, or that he was even relaxed, but she was telling the truth. He could hear that as plain as day. —- but then she felt it necessary to push the line and the wolf inside reacted.

            Fingers curled over her shoulders and he pulled her roughly from the wall, only to slam her back into it. When the Alpha pulled from her for a second time he took a pair of judicious steps backwards, putting space between them to assure that sort of outburst wouldn’t happen again.

            “It’s a real coincidence.”

          Kate tensed slightly when the hand on her throat tightened again, her eyes falling shut for a moment. She was just waiting on him to let go, she knew he would. No matter what had happened between them, Derek had never been able to hurt her enough to do serious damage. They’d had their fights, sure. But neither of them had been able to do anything serious to the other.

          Just like that night that she was supposed to ‘torture’ him, she didn’t do it. She talked to him, provoked him, sure. But when it came to actually doing something to him she had left and made someone else do it for her. That little detail had been dismissed beneath everything else that had happened, but the fact remained.

          When the wolf finally decided to let her go she took a few deep breaths and then crossed her arms across her chest, smirking slightly. “You done?” she questioned, but it was only moments before he grabbed her by the shoulders and she had the breath knocked out of her yet again by being slammed against the wall. She made a face for a moment before sighing and looking to him.

          “Seriously sweetheart? So violent today, I’m not sure if it’s frustrating or a turn on. Although I’m leaning toward the latter.” she mused, tongue darting out to drag across her lips slowly. Letting out a small chuckle, she rolled her shoulders once the throbbing in her back started to dull. “I know right? Such an… interesting coincidence. I mean think about it, of all people to show up in your building, it’s your ex girlfriend who was supposed to be dead. Unexpected, right? I think it’s kind of funny that you’re the first person I’ve come across since my return. Like destiny or something, if you believe in that shit.”
